Researches, plans, and designs complex mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. Provides technical expertise in product design enhancements to reduce costs through value engineering. Performs thermal and/or optical analysis of laser systems and subsystems. Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Develops basic design concepts and elaborates based on input from project engineer. • Researches and recommends materials based on properties and application. • Performs thermal and/or optical analysis of laser systems and subsystems. • Design tooling to facilitate manufacture of laser assemblies. • Meets established deadlines and objectives. • Process Documentation changes (DCRs) according to procedure. • Elaborate/maintain drawings utilizing AutoCAD REL 14 and Cad Key. • Record and file all drawings and document change forms. • Maintain CAD systems. • Generate and modify existing process instructions using "Word Processor". • Draw up and design special forms, specification sheets, matrix prints, etc. • Maintain ACCESS. • Create parts and assembly drawings using Solid Edge and detail parts using geometric tolerancing. • Evaluate and modify existing designs to improve products. • Complies with health and safety policies and procedures. • Supports company values including ethical conduct and high integrity in all actions.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Solve related mechanical or fabrication problems. • Assists lower level drafters and others that require technical support.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, and eight years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, other employees, and customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: • Completes work with a high level of accuracy. • Proficient with AutoCAD, Solid Edge, Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Outlook. • General mechanical engineering terms. • Able to utilize AutoCAD Rel 14 and/or Solid Modeler program. Prefer Solid Edge. • Should have a good concept of approved drafting practices (a.n.s.y., mil-100, geometric tolerances). • Define tolerances in order to create a usable manufacturing part that would fit as required by design. • Design detail parts and design subsystems based on engineering sketches. • Demonstrate good drafting practices. • Ability to update and enter information in access database and as/400 MAPICS system a plus. • Data entry and filing.
