Support the development of new product by providing the mechanical design concept and provides technical expertise in product design enhancements to reduce costs through ‘value engineering'. Researches, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Design parts and assemblies based on the input from the Project Engineer. • Process documentation changes (DCR'S) accord¬ing to procedure. • Elaborate drawings utilizing AutoCad REL 14 Windows (computer Aided Drafting system). • Record and file all drawings and document change forms. • Meets established deadlines and objectives. • Maintain CAD systems. • Generate and modify existing process instruc¬tions using "Word Processor". • Draw up and design special forms, specifica¬tion sheets, matrix prints, etc. • Maintain ACCESS. • Create parts and assemblies using Solid Edge and detail parts using geometric tolerancing. • Evaluate and modify existing designs to improve products. • Solves related mechanical or fabrication problems. • Complies with health and safety policies and procedures. • Supports company values including ethical conduct and high integrity in all actions.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Aids in directing lower level drafters and others that require technical support. • Maintains print request log. • Maintain bills of materials using a computer (AS 400 interactive bill of materials system). • Maintain routings using AS400. • Maintain CAD drawings using computer. • Prepares mechanical designs and layouts in support of the engineering department.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, and three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: • High degree of work accuracy required. • Proficient with Solid Edge, Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, Project. • Able to utilize AutoCad Rel 14 and/or Solid Modeler program. Prefer Solid Edge. • Should have a good concept of approved drafting practices (A.N.S.Y., MIL-100, geometric tolerances). • Define tolerances in order to create a usable manufacturing part that would fit as required by design. • Design detail parts and design subsystems based on engineering sketches. • Demonstrate good drafting practices. • Ability to update and enter information in ACCESS database and AS/400 MAPICS system a plus.
